Construction of a New Plant for Mining and Civil Engineering Tools in Thailand - Doubling the manufacturing capacity to meet growing demand -

MMC RYOTEC Corporation, a consolidated subsidiary of Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, aims to enhance the manufacturing system for the mining and civil engineering tools it manufactures and sells and has decided to construct a new plant at OTEC (Thailand) Co, Ltd. (“OTEC”), its manufacturing base for those tools in Thailand, to expand the manufacturing capacity.

Among mining and civil engineering tools, tools for drilling holes (*1) in bedrock, called bits and rods (*2), are widely used in civil engineering work such as mining, stone crushing and tunneling. As demand for the above tools continues to be on the rise due to the increasing demand for resources and the growth of infrastructure development from global population increase, there is a need to provide products that meet customer needs and establish a stable manufacturing system.

Since its establishment in 1997, OTEC has steadily grown as MMC RYOTEC’s overseas manufacturing base for construction tools. To meet growing demand, the company has started construction of a new plant to increase rod manufacturing capacity. The new plant is scheduled to start operation in October 2025 and will be equipped with new machining and heat treatment facilities. The production capacity is planned to be doubled in the future according to growing demand.

(*1) To drill a hole with a rock drill in rock drilling work in order to blast and fracture the rock by loading explosives into the hole.
(*2) Bit: A tool with a cemented carbide blade implanted at the tip of a steel body. Impact force is applied to the bedrock through the blade to drill a hole while fracturing the bedrock.
Rod: A member that transfers the energy generated by the drilling machine to the bit. High rigidity is required to transmit a large load despite its elongated shape.
