MITSUBISHI MATERIALS CORPORATION Metalworking Solutions Company (Company President: Tetsuya Tanaka, Address: Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has added a longer length L/D=5 type to the DSA series of solid carbide drills for machining of heat resistant super alloys. This latest addition will be released on September 1st.
The DSA drill series has gained a reputation as a type that overcomes the problems of work hardening that tends to occur when cutting heat resistant alloys. It also achieves a long tool life and excellent hole quality despite the heat generated when machining these types of materials.
In order to expand the range of applications, MITSUBISHI MATERIALS has added a longer length type, (L/D=5), which can machine a hole depth that is 5 times the cutting edge diameter.
1. The unique coolant hole geometry for drill diameters of 5 mm or greater increases the amount of coolant discharged without reducing the rigidity of the drill, thereby improving lubricity and cooling.
2. The straight cutting edge has been optimised for strength and features an edge honing suitable for heat resistant super alloy machining that enables stable chip formation and provides extra resistance to chipping.
3. The specially designed margin for machining heat resistant super alloys minimizes the contact area and suppresses cutting heat and work hardening.
4. The new PVD-coated carbide grade DP9020 is used as the substrate to increase hardness. This improves wear resistance whilst also maintaining toughness.
