Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, Advanced Materials & Tools Company (President – Shinichi Nakamura, Headquarters: 1-3-2 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has launched the new short shank type VFR2SSB, for the IMPACT MIRACLE REVOLUTION coated end mill series for machining high hardened steels.
Materials used in the mould and die industry are becoming progressively harder, prompting the development of a range of ball nose end mills that deliver long tool life when machining them. This is achieved by utilising a newly developed coating named IMPACT MIRACLE REVOLUTION. This provides better wear resistance and high lubricity as well as high adhesion to the ultra-fine grade carbide substrate. To expand the application options available, a new short shank type, VFR2SSB, has been added to the range.
1. The combination of a newly-developed (Al,Cr,Si) N top coating layer with improved oxidation resistance and high lubricity, together with the (Al,Ti,Si) N base coating layer that provides improved wear resistance and high adhesion, realises an excellent overall resistance to wear when machining high hardened steels.
2. VFR2SSB, 2 flute ball nose end mills offer high edge strength by optimising the newly developed S-shaped negative cutting edge geometry.
